PTK-LVR-5A

This is the 5A/6.2V regulator for Li-Poly receiver packs from ProTek R/C. A breakthrough in R/C car racing with Li-Poly Technology! The 5 Amp regulator was designed specifically for the demanding classes of on-road and off-road 1/10th & 1/8th vehicles. Numerous advancement in servo technology has brought faster, more powerful and reliable servos to the track, however there is one drawback – ‘power consumption’. These servos draw more current than their predecessors and therefore need higher capacity batteries. That is why manufacturers are pushing for higher capacity receiver batteries for racing.

Features:

  • Low drop out voltage. This translates to extra run time from your battery without affecting the receiver and servo performance throughout the race. Without the low drop out design the performance is affected as soon as the battery starts to weaken.
  • Li-Po low voltage detection. Red LED lights up when the Li-Po battery is at 6.2V or lower. This is to remind the user to charge the Li-Po battery to prevent over discharging the battery.
  • Functional LED. A Green LED will light up when it is powered up to show the unit is functioning.
  • Clear heat shrink protection. This protects the regulator circuit and allows the LED’s to be viewed clearly.
  • Double-sided SMT with alloy case. The alloy case will help to dissipate heat, and provides a flat surface for the regulator so you can use double sided tape for mounting.
  • No switch. Means fewer problems and fewer components to fail. In Nitro racing, switches are always a source of problems due to vibration. You can of course use your own switch if you so desire.

Instructions:

  1. Insert the JR style male battery connector from the regulator into the receiver’s battery slot. To make the regulator connectors universal, a JR style connector is used for the output lead. Please be careful with the polarity for Futaba receivers that usually use a polarity tab on the battery connector. The black wire should be opposite to where the polarity tab is usually located.
  2. Mount the regulator using foam double-sided tape to your RC model. Find a location that is safe from possible collision and vibrations and as protected as possible from dirt and debris. Important: The regulator does get hot, so consider placing the regulator outside of the receiver box if possible to ensure good air flow.
  3. If you plan to use a switch, please ensure that the switch is placed between the regulator and the battery so the battery can be properly disconnected when not in use. To avoid possibly over discharging your battery, it is recommend to always unplug the receiver battery from your switch when you are finished racing in case the switch is turned on while the vehicle is stored or in transit.
  4. If you are not using a switch, directly plug the receiver battery wire into the Futaba style female connector. To make the regulator connectors universal, the input connector is a Futaba style connector so it will work with both Futaba and JR style switches and batteries. If the polarity is backwards, the regulator will not function, so check that the polarity is correct if you are using a JR style switch.
  5. The green LED will light up and the receiver and servos are now powered up!
  6. When the red LED on the regulator comes on, it indicates that the voltage of the Li-Po battery is 6.2V or lower. Disconnect the battery and recharge it immediately. We recommend that you charge your battery even when the red LED has not come on. Li-Po batteries do not have a memory and work best if kept are peak charge as much as possible.
